Day 24 of Eric Vs. 365 features Fishing Sim World. I have to admit, I freaking hated the game when it came out in September 2018, but it has had a lot of updates since then and I had a surprisingly good time with it while recording this video. Continue reading to see what changed and whether it is worth picking up now.
First things first - Even after a bunch of updates and content additions, Fishing Sim World is still primarily a European carp fishing game. Carp suck, which means the game still kinda sucks. If you are looking for more familiar North American species like largemouth bass, crappie, and the like, the pickings are still a bit slim here unless you shell out some extra cash for DLC lakes. With that said, if the price is right it is worth a look because the game has improved quite a bit.
One of my complaints about the original release of the game was that the bass and other USA fish didn't really put up a fight. The carp were big epic battles and the bass practically jumped into your boat. That has changed at some point in the last 10-months and now the bass and other American sport fish put up a great fight. Maybe too much of a fight, though, because I've never fought a real fish for as long as the game drags out reeling some of these fish in. It's fun and exciting, though.
Literally days after I made this video a new free update came out for Fishing Sim World called Pro Tour which added a bunch of new stuff including real world fishing pros. This is sort of the problem with covering "Games As A Service" titles in that they keep getting bigger and (usually) better, but your initial review sort of sits there and sours the discussion. If I had to review Fishing Sim World again it would probably be a 7 instead of a 5 now (because it is still way too focused on dumb carp).
One note about this video I want to add is that I definitely would have played more but a huge wind storm blew in and I had to stop. I was having a lot of fun, too. You can hear in the audio the wind start howling outside of my apartment and a bunch of stuff started banging off of my air conditioner. That storm did a lot of damage all over town and was kind of a big deal. And now you know, the rest of the story.
