Eric Vs. 365 - Day 51 - Halo CE

Day 51 of Eric Vs. 365 features a stone cold classic - Halo: Combat Evolved. This is one of our favorite games ever and being able to show off our love and skills seemed like a no-brainer. Then we turned some skulls on and made things difficult. You'll see. Read on for gameplay footage and more.

I didn't really have a plan for this video when I started. I thought I'd just play through a fun iconic level or two and call it a day. I made a mistake, though - I turned on the skulls for exploding grunts and 2x bigger explosions, which was a terrible decision. I died. A lot. Like, a LOT a lot. I also turned on the decreased gravity for items - so everything flies around really far - which produced some funny results. All in all, though, it turned out OK. My growing frustration as I repeatedly died all while enemies and objects are flying super far makes it pretty entertaining. Sorry it wasn't a perfect flawless run of The Silent Cartographer, but I made it more interesting at least. Right?

I talk about a lot of stuff during the video too. I talk about my history with Halo and Xbox - going from someone who thought Xbox was lame to owning one and getting a job covering it a year later was kind of wild. I talk about how Halo has changed over the years from a "30 seconds of fun" sandbox to more directed and cinematic (and less fun). I also briefly touch on how the Master Chief Collection is fine now, and has been fine for a while, but most discussion online will probably still be about how awful and broken it "is". People are dumb.

Anyways. I think this video turned out surprisingly good even though I died a ton. I talked about some interesting stuff. I put in a great edit towards the beginning (ooh, foreshadowing!). And the gameplay was entertaining.

I'm definitely planning on doing more Halo games in the future, so keep an eye on Eric Vs. 365.
