Eric Vs. 365 - Day 111 - Lollipop Chainsaw

Has there ever been a video game that felt like it was made specifically just for you? For me that game is Lollipop Chainsaw. It packs so many of my favorite things into one super fun package and has been one of my favorite games since it launched in 2012. Find out why and watch Lollipop Chainsaw gameplay right here.

When I say Lollipop Chainsaw is a collection of all of my favorite things, I mean it. It's got a hot girl, a great sense of humor, an amazing soundtrack, great presentation, an attention to detail that shows off the love of the creators for the living dead, and absolutely fantastic chainsaw-wielding zombie slicing gameplay that is fun as hell. I knew that I was going to love the game before it even came out way back then and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. Lollipop Chainsaw also marks the coolest press kit I ever got with a review copy. It was a huge box filled with Lollipop Chainsaw merch that was super cool (there's pics at the end of the video).

Not everyone loved Lollipop Chainsaw, though. IGN gave it a 5/10 at the time, but they're IGN so you expect dumb wrong reviews from them. Other folks didn't like the fanservice, or thought the gameplay was too repetitive, or thought zombies were getting old, and some just flat out didn't "get" it. People are entitled to their own opinions and junk, but they're still wrong.

I will admit that not everything is as fun as it could be. There are some rough sections of the game that I don't really look forward to on replays. Juliet's younger sister is absolutely obnoxious, for example. Driving the combine is boring. Some of the mini-games like the sports ones at school or the ones in the arcade are pretty lame. It's far from a perfect game, but those slight complaints don't diminish the overall quality and I actually gave it a 9/10 when I reviewed it for About.com back in the day.

I don't know that I'd give it quite that high of a score today in 2019, but I do still really love Lollipop Chainsaw.

A couple notes about today's video. This was made using my original save file from 2012 where I have all of the moves and upgrades unlocked along with many of the costumes. When you start the game fresh it is kind of boring, since you don't have any moves, so I thought this was a good way to show it off. The game also has a great punk and rock soundtrack, of course, but I turned the music off so as not to anger the YouTube Content ID gods. Trust me, the music is great, though. And, finally, the video ended before I really wanted it to because the damn game got stuck on a loading screen and I couldn't go any further. I don't know what the problem is, but it did it to me twice in that same spot.

Whatevers.
