Eric Vs. 365 - Day 204 - Earth Defense Force 5

Earth Defense Force is freaking great an EDF5 is by far the best of them all. With Earth Defense Force 5 they basically just said "screw it" and turned all of the crazy up to "11" and the result is that the game is incredibly ridiculously fun. Sandlot. D3 Publisher. THIS is all you need to do to make the series popular in the West. Not that Insect Armageddon and Iron Rain crap. Read more and watch EDF5 gameplay right here.

I liked Earth Defense Force 5 so much I gave it my 2018 Game of the Year nod. Though, I have to admit, if I would have played Assassin's Creed Odyssey in 2018 that 100% would have been my GOTY, but I didn't play it until sometime in 2019. Sorry. Them's the breaks.

I still love EDF5, though, because it is incredibly fun and over the top and wonderful. The amount of bugs you fight is increased exponentially over previous games. The amount of blood splatter from the bugs and aliens you blow away is hilariously ridiculous. The enemy variety is the best it has ever been. The progression and unlock system is the best it has ever been since you upgrade all of the classes as you play and unlock stuff for everyone as you play so you can switch between classes freely without having to level them all up again. The scale of the battles you fight in is also greatly, greatly, greatly increased as well. This game is just freaking nuts and I love it.

Other (dumb) people say Earth Defense Force is too mindless and repetitive, but that's what I, and I assume other fans, like about it. Not every game needs to be a glacially paced cinematic serious realistic game. Video games used to be goofy fun and any time I can get my hands on a game like that is always a special treat. EDF isn't just good because it's a video game-ass video game. It does actually play really well and is incredibly satisfying and fun and wonderful.

Play more Earth Defense Force you pussy idiot cowards!
