Eric Vs. 365 - Day 230 - Gravity Rush 2

Finally, a PS4 exclusive that doesn't disappoint on every front besides visuals. Gravity Rush 2 is awesome. It combines great presentation with awesome gameplay and an incredibly likable protagonist (and a cat) all in one fantastic package. I was starting to get worried that PS4 exclusives were just shallow cinematic visual showpieces, but Gravity Rush 2 proves Sony can still make actual games once in a while when it wants to. Read more and watch gameplay here.

Gravity Rush 2 is a video game-ass video game, and I love that. After a brief intro section it sets you loose to just fly around and have fun in its incredible world and it is like a breath of fresh air compared to Sony's other more cinematic games that are so pretentious and rigid that they're exhausting to sit through. Gravity Rush 2 is just fun. It has incredibly intuitive gameplay where you can turn gravity on and off and fly wherever you want and the scale of the game world is ridiculously impressive. The presentation is awesome as well and Kat is frickin' amazing.

I said that Horizon: Zero Dawn was basically the same story as "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind", but Gravity Rush 2 also feels, and looks, and sounds like a Ghibli movie as well. Particularly the opening hour really feels like a Studio Ghibli film. The whole game is about air ships and floating cities and flying around, which are repeating themes in just about every Miyazaki movie. "Laputa: Castle in the Sky" immediately came to mind as I started playing it and that feeling only got stronger the further into Gravity Rush 2 I got.

So there you have it. I love Gravity Rush 2. See, I don't crap on every Sony exclusive.
