Eric Vs. 365 - Day 275 - Mortal Kombat XL

I've come to a surprising conclusion recently - I don't think I like Mortal Kombat anymore. It is clunky and slow and stiff and not fun to play. The characters are ugly and keep getting worse and less interesting. The story sucks. And, most of all, the blood and gore and fatalties just aren't entertaining and haven't been for a while. Today's game is Mortal Kombat XL. Read more and watch gameplay here.

Why did anyone ever play Mortal Kombat to begin with? Because it was bloody and brutal and extreme and had fatalaties, that's why. The gameplay has always been garbage, though. The 2D games? Pure garbage. The 3D Deadly Alliance / Deception / Armageddon? Absolute smelly trash. The new trilogy of MK9, X, and 11? Highly polished and improved, but still super trash.

Once the appeal of the gore and fatalities wears off, Mortal Kombat doesn't have very much left. Particularly when compared to any other competent fighting games like Street Fighter 4 and 5, Dead or Alive 5 and 6, any Tekken, any Soul Calibur, etc.. Mortal Kombat isn't fun to play outside of the shock factor.

For this video, I decided to just do all the cool horror DLC guys' fatalities since I didn't really want to actually play the game. You're welcome.

Oh, and for the record - Netherrealm Studios' other series, Injustice, sucks too.
