Eric Vs. 365 - Day 305 - Riddled Corpses EX

Riddled Corpses EX is a fun little twin-stick shooter indie that looks decent and sounds great thanks to an amazing soundtrack, but the grindy progression setup makes actually playing through it kind of a pain. Basically, you suck on your first run. And you suck on your tenth run. By your twentieth run, maybe you'll have good enough stats to see past the first couple levels. Maybe. Or maybe I just suck at it? Whatevers. Read more and watch gameplay below.

As a twin-stick shooter, Riddled Corpses EX is pretty generic. You point and shoot and stuff dies. That's fine. What isn't fine is that you have to grind to level up your character for a surprisingly long time until they're able to any sort of effective. You earn money by playing the game that you then spend on level upgrades or buying items, so you have to grind and grind and grind and grind in order to "git gud" and then you can maybe beat level 2.

Or you can save up your money and buy new characters. You know the two hot anime girls all over the promo artwork for the game? You gotta unlock them and they'll both take a LONG time to unlock. I kind of hate that.

I also really, really hate this indie game trend of putting hot anime girls in the box art and promo materials but the actual game is a totally different art style. It's a bait and switch. You were expecting hot anime girls? Nope! You get ugly potato 8-bit pixel blobs instead!

Would I recommend Riddled Corpses EX? Sure. It's only $10 and is on sale fairly often. The great soundtrack is probably worth the price of admission on its own.
