Eric Vs. 365 - Day 119 - Left 4 Dead 2

Why oh why can't Valve count to "3". Half-Life 3. Portal 3. Left 4 Dead 3. We need them. The world will be a better place with them in it, I'm sure of it. Today's game for Eric Vs. 365 is Left 4 Dead 2, which is just as fun as ever but you can't shake the feeling of how amazing a sequel on powerful current or next-gen hardware will be. "sigh" Click to read more about Left 4 Dead 2 and watch gameplay where we spook a lot of witches.

Left 4 Dead 2 is one of a handful of games I covered where I got a lot of negative feedback for what I said. First, here's a couple others -

1. When Microsoft started banning Xbox 360 consoles that had been modded so they couldn't use Xbox Live anymore around the Modern Warfare 2 launch. I wrote a blog saying they deserved it for piracy and I also warned other people not to buy used systems on eBay or Craigslist because they will likely have been banned. Boy oh boy, were people (pirates) pissed about that. How dare I try to prevent them from scamming other people by selling them systems that wouldn't work on Xbox Live. Screw those a-holes.

2. I once wrote a blog downplaying the monthly NPD sales numbers because it didn't matter that Nintendo sold a bazillion Wii systems since most of them ended up collecting dust in closets and not getting used. I also said it didn't matter how many Wii's got sold compared to Xbox 360 because they weren't really after the same markets. It's like gloating that Coca Cola sells more than Budweiser. Yeah, no shit. Man, people were mad that I said Wii sales numbers don't matter. Dorks.

Back to Left 4 Dead 2. Back when it came out there was some push back by loudmouth morons on the Internet that the game wasn't going to be any good because it had too quick of a turn around time. The first L4D took several years to make and the sequel only took a year, so it was "definitely" going to be rushed and half-assed and bad. I wrote a blog post explaining how sequels can be made quicker - because they already freaking made all the assets and engine and could iterate much faster - and, again, people were pissed that I dare question their reasoning for forming an ill-informed angry mob.

Well, Left 4 Dead 2 came out and was awesome so I was proven right and they were proven wrong. That happened a lot.

One thing about the video for today. I spooked a lot of witches. I don't know why. I couldn't take a step without a witch launching at me and murdering my character. Over and over again. So often it became the theme of the whole video when I edited it. It's nice when stories just kind of organically happen in the editing bay like that.

I also want to say that, man, Left 4 Dead 2 is kind of boring solo. It's much more fun in co-op.
