Eric Vs. 365 - Day 149 - Super Mario Kart

Mario Kart as a franchise is interesting to me in that there is little consensus about which games everyone considers good or bad. Ask ten people and you'll probably get five different answers about which one they think is the best, and the ones they say are the worst are probably the ones the other 9 people loved. I kinda think they're all good. Today we play the one that started it all, Super Mario Kart for SNES. Click for more and to watch gameplay.

Super Mario Kart released on SNES in 1992. It was my first Mario Kart and I love it. It's right up there with Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 64 as my favorites. The weird thing about Mario Kart, though, is that nobody agrees on anything. Kids today think Super Mario Kart is too simple and ugly. Tons of people hate Mario Kart 64 for some reason that is still a mystery to me. Mario Kart: Double Dash was a failed experiment. Mario Kart Wii had tracks a mile wide and snaking (drifting at every possible opportunity) makes the game freaking boring. Mario Kart 7 and 8 are both fine. The GBA Mario Kart is ... whatever. It's all good.

I've bought Super Mario Kart something like 5-6 times in my life. I've owned two physical SNES copies. I bought it twice on Wii Virtual Console (sold my first system and forgot my account info ...). I bought a SNES Classic Mini. I have Nintendo Switch Online. And every time I re-buy it as an adult it follows the same pattern - I play it for 20-minutes and then never touch it again. I still like it. It's a ton of fun. I just don't play it. You're welcome, Nintendo. Except I used an emulator to make this video, so screw you, Nintendo.

This video worked out pretty well. I tear through the Mushroom Cup on 100cc and dominate every race. Luigi gives my Koopa Troopa some trouble now and then, but I win every race. Yeah, I'm kind of awesome.
