Eric Vs. 365 - Day 319 - Rory McIlroy PGA Tour

After EA Sports' PGA Tour series was so massively popular on the 5th, 6th, and 7th generation consoles, it is amazing that Rory McIlroy PGA Tour from 2015 was the only game they managed to squeeze out in the 8th gen. And now they don't even have the PGA Tour license anymore, which is a shame because The Golf Club sucks donkey balls, so our hopes for a real golf game (that is actually fun) any time soon are pretty much dead. At least Rory McIlroy PGA Tour was decent, despite what morons said at the time of release. Read more and watch gameplay here.

Back in 2015 when Rory McIlroy PGA Tour was released it managed a meager 61% Metacritic score. The problems back then were that the game didn't have enough content or an interesting enough career, though everyone agreed the actual golf was excellent. Then everyone just moved on and forgot the game existed despite the fact that EA added a ton of courses and features to the game in the months following release. Not enough courses? Now there's plenty. A boring career? Who gives a shit! No, seriously. Who gives a god damn shit about a sports game career mode when most of your time is spent in multiplayer or one-off matches.

So, add this one to the pile of EA games that got bad initial reviews, but then EA fixed them and added tons of content, but the damage was already done. It's a shame because the play out on the course is phenomenally good. It's one of the best feeling golf games I've ever played and it's not only really intuitive, but gives you more information than any other game to make sure your shots go (mostly) where you want them. Too bad no one will bother to play it now.

Also, The Golf Club games freaking suck. I can't believe that the PGA license is now attached to that awful horrible not fun at all series.

If you'd like to play Rory McIlroy PGA Tour I'd recommend just playing it via EA Access. Physical copies seem to be rare / expensive these days.
