Eric Vs. 365 - Day 352 - Halo 3 ODST

Halo 3: ODST is the second best Halo campaign after Halo: Combat Evolved. I'm pretty sure both of those rankings are controversial, but you're dumb so what do I care? ODST freaking rocks! Read more and watch gameplay here.

Originally pooh-poohed because people thought ODST was "just" an expansion for Halo 3 - actually, people still pooh-pooh it because they don't think it's a real game - Halo 3: ODST was great back then and still great now as part of the Master Chief Collection. I think people didn't like it because it didn't reinvent the multiplayer wheel like previous Halo releases, but that's stupid because it did add the extremely popular Firefight horde mode. It also has a great campaign. It was a fully-featured package at (I think) $50 when it launched, but people just want to bitch about everything.

I'm all about that campaign, though. I find defending an Earth city from alien invasion to be more satisfying than tromping around yet another alien planet, honestly. Seeing things you know and recognize makes the fight all the more urgent and personal. Playing as a relatively fragile ODST soldier rather than a walking tank of a Spartan mixes up the gameplay enough that you have to play differently from a normal Halo game. ODST has a reputation for being too short, but all of the Halo games have a 4-6 hour campaign, unless you're torturing yourself by playing on Legendary difficulty, so ODST isn't any shorter than the rest. It also happens to be more interesting.

So whatever. Ya'll can hate on ODST and make up all sorts of wrong excuses to not like it, but you're wrong.
