Eric Vs. 365 - Day 22 - WWE 2K19 - HHH vs. A Cat

Ever wanted to see a cat win the WWE Championship? Of course you have! Day 22 of Eric Vs. 365 features WWE 2K19 and a very special match up between HHH and Mughi the cat in a fight for the ages. All of the videos have been solid up to this point, but this is definitely my favorite so far. Enjoy the video and be sure to keep reading this blog for more info on how / why we made it.

When I first came up with the concept for Eric Vs. 365 - making the videos more personal and unique - having my cat win the WWE title was among the first handful of ideas (along with the Minecraft cat video from day 5). I had already made a Mughi CAW in WWE 2K19, so I knew it would look decent enough, but I went the extra mile for the video. I gave him a kind of wild flippy moveset to sort of mimic how a cat would fight. I also made his entrance crazy with the fast rock music and Ultimate Warrior animations where he's just going nuts. I didn't anticipate how ridiculous the Big Head Mode is in the game, especially paired with the over the top animations, but that just made it better.

I knew I didn't want to just let the game do commentary and me talking over it, so I put on a sports announcer persona and did the commentary myself. I think I did a pretty good job calling moves and telling the story of the match. A couple of the funniest moments are when I break character, though, because I couldn't think of what a move was supposed to be called or something.

The overall video has a couple of rough spots, but I couldn't avoid them. The super-crappy lip sync attempt at the beginning could have definitely been better, but considering I originally recorded a minute long HHH promo trash talking Mughi I think it turned out as well as you could hope. I was also going to lip sync Mughi's meows, but that was a huge pain in the butt. I had to turn HHH's entrance volume down just so the Motorhead song wouldn't get Content ID'd (so far, so good). The ending of the match itself, unfortunately, also is kind of weird because the game did wonky stuff that I was just at a loss for words and didn't say anything. You can hear my confusion. The match is also a little stilted and awkward because I had to record it twice and used the best bits from both matches. I just let the CPU fight itself while I did commentary, and wouldn't you know it, silly Mughi lost the first match in like 5-minutes. Silly cat.

All in all, though, it is a very entertaining video that I'm more than happy with.

As for the game itself, WWE 2K19 is kind of an odd bird. I would easily say it is the best wrestling game of the XONE / PS4 generation, and easily the best one since 2K took over the franchise, but I find myself not really wanting to play it. It plays fine, but I have more fun watching the CPU fight than actually playing it. That probably sounds like it isn't actually very good, but it really does play just fine. I'm just tired of wrestling games, I think. The presentation is fantastic and it has the best roster to ever appear in a wrestling game, so there is a lot to like whether you're playing it or just watching. The price dropped super fast on it, too, so it's worth a look, especially if you've skipped a game or two (the last one I played before this was 2K16).
