Eric Vs. 365 - Day 228 - Nex Machina

Nex Machina is one of the best games of the generation. Yeah, I'm on my BS again telling you about all of the great games you missed while you were playing mediocre sad dad sims. Nex Machina is twin stick shooting pretty much perfected and has some of the most slick presentation around. You need to play this. Read more and watch gameplay here.

The gameplay is somewhat simple - there's only so much you can do with a twin stick shooter - but it makes up for it with a fantastic upgrade system and sub-weapon system that can greatly impact how each run through the roughly hour long game goes. Different difficulty levels also throw tons more stuff at you, so just as you think you know what you're doing you can crank up the difficulty and get your butt kicked all over again.

I think the best part of Nex Machina is the sheer amount of secrets hidden in each level. The levels are relatively small and you only spend a scant few seconds in each, if you're doing it right, but if you go too fast you miss out on hidden beacons and hidden humans and secret power ups and all sorts of fun extra stuff. Being fast is fun, but going slow and thorough is more satisfying. Heh.

I also can't say enough about the presentation. The game just looks amazing, though I'm a sucker for anything neon, apparently. Great music. Great sound effects. Nex Machina is fantastic.

Buy it. It's on sale all the time. Buy it.
